1) My overall favorite spot is La Carraia! This place is so special because it is the cheapest in town and out of this world delicious! Yum!! For a single euro you gets double scoop of gelato (or a single scoop of two flavors)! Now I am a bit biased and I favor dessert flavored gelato over their fruit flavored counterparts! I often go for a mix of dark chocolate and caramel but La Carraia has around 20 different flavors so make sure to mix and match till you find that perfect combination! Furthermore if you're looking to add something special on top you can go with the hand whipped cream that is truly decadent for only 50 cents more!! So good!! Another reason I like La Carraia is the location. It sits on the corner of the La Carraia bridge and lends itself for a wonderful walk along the Arno! We would often have dinner at La Spada and make the quick walk to La Carraia for our dessert! Make sure you check it out when you get to Florence and prepare for the ultimate gelato experience!
2) Perche No? Perche No is another local favorite less than 5 minutes from the Duomo. It is easily spotted by its iconic neon lights! This one is great for those looking for quick treat but not looking for the walk to the other side of the Arno! This spot is slightly more expensive coming in around 2 euro for 2 scoops! But to be completely honest I'd probably get it if cost me my right arm!
3) Vivoli! Now this place is the oldest gelateria in Florence and was the only place I found to have the original flavor of gelato which was invented for wedding of a Medici hundreds of years ago! So of course you need to make it here to pay respect the history of this marvelous dessert! Due to its international popularity you will need to fork out more dough than either La Carraia or Perche No but again it's so worth it! Vivoli is located near Santa Croche on (I won't tell you where exactly since the adventure if half the fun)! So if you're looking to get a taste of history and amazing gelato this will be your spot!
That's all for now! Stay tuned for next weeks blog posting on pizza from your fellow friendly foodie! Remember keep calm and mangia on!
