So, with all these awesome things to do, how do you not spend 200% of your study abroad budget? Well, let's dive in.
Explore markets- Markets are easily the best way to get your daily products for cheaper. Everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to clothes and beauty products, you'll end up saving money by bargaining at markets. Just make sure you go before 2 pm because they close after that. Seriously, be an early riser, get up and get the best deals of the day from the market. Just remember, these products are all natural and will go bad much faster than they would at home. So, it's best to make your trips to the market a daily endeavor, or at least every other day. Make this a habit and you'll eat well all semester for super cheap.
This also goes for just about every European city. The most expensive food will be near the biggest tourist attractions. That is a guarantee. You want to save money? Then walk a few blocks away from the central locations, hop into a 'no-name' shop and pay half the price. When you begin to frequent the same locations too the people will get to know you and begin charging you a lot less. It's good to be a girl too because the Italian shop keepers give us more discounts than the guys (haha). Use it to your advantage and find the places that you like the best. A piece of advice? Just because a restaurant has a line doesn't necessarily mean it's good. You're studying abroad in Italy...everything here is good. Don't be afraid to try that hole in the wall place. It's probably cheaper, just as good and you won't waste half an hour waiting in line for a sandwich.
One of my favorite things to do in my downtime (that always provide enjoyment) is to people watch. Florence is a tourist city and there are A LOT of interesting people to see and meet. Find a spot, walk around and soak in the sunshine when it's there, cause you won't be here forever.
Like I said before, there are so many places to sit down and just R-E-L-A-X so take some time to yourself. Florence is absolutely incredible and I wish I could pick just one spot that's my favorite, but I can't Each and everyday brings a new opportunity, place to explore and sights to see.
