20 Tidbits of Knowledge For Your "Springfest" Trip to Munich

4/4/2016

Picture
Before you do anything, see what you're in store for when you sign up for a EuroAdventures "Springfest" trip to Munich by seeing an old photo album HERE:

Then get totally amped. Because here are my 20 Thoughts on what you should do in order to prepare for it.

FYI: Sign up for EuroAdventures Springfest Trip Here

20 Thoughts/Tips for SPRINGFEST

  1. Buy a dirndl and #doitfortheinsta
  2. Despite the long bus ride, get up early, wait in line, bare the cold and GET A TABLE. FAST!
  3. DO NOT by any means LEAVE YOUR TABLE, you won’t find a better one closer to the band, trust me. Stick to what you got
  4. Before entering the tents, MAKE A MEETING POINT with your friends somewhere in the front of the grounds just in case ANYONE gets lost. That way, no matter how many steins you have consumed, you will know where to find them.
  5. Cellphones? There is NO service… too many people. BUT we all know the iPhone camera is GOLD and how else would you make all your friends back home jealous…? SNAPCHAT! Just be careful, and bring it knowing the consequences.
  6. Do not underestimate the beer servers, if you are in their way, they will push you down and you will fall. I mean give them a break, 12 stiens at a time! I can barely hold 1!
  7. TIP THEM. They will love you for it and be loyal to your table.
  8. Say “PROST”. Say it a million times, say it to the table next to you. Say it to the random German man staring at you. Say it to everyone!
  9. Take a selfie. NEW PROFILE PIC OMG
  10. If you are going to stand up and chug, make sure you can actually chug the ENTIRE thing.
  11.  If you fail, you will get 30 pretzels and other nasty shit thrown at you.
  12. If you succeed  and a crowd of 5000-8000 will cheer for you making you feel like the coolest bad-ass in the beer hall…for about a minute until some other guy decides to stand up and chug
  13. Speaking of pretzels, GET ONE.
  14. Or two..
  15. Ok get 5.
  16. DON’T BREAK THE SEAL TOO EARLY. You will regret it, trust me ladies. The lines are horribly long and there is no way out of it. (and you might not have a table to go back to if you leave)
  17. Which reminds me, DO NOT try to sneak into the men’s bathroom… Just don’t.
  18. Out of money? Already? But you want another? Flirt with a cute German to buy you a stein :) Also there are ATM’s by the main entrance.
  19. Roller coasters and rides are NOT just for kids.
  20. Have fun kids. It’s all about the experience.

If you're feeling frisky, you can always RSVP on Facebook here. Or you can message me on Facebook and ask me all the questions you want. Seriously, I don't mind. You can email me too at ashley@euroadventures.com

Gettin' those American Food Cravings in Barca...

3/30/2016

Written by: Evan Deschenes

Living in the beach city of Barcelona can have many advantages including the huge array of restaurant options that will guarantee to satisfy your American food fix...That is right after you decide you can’t eat any more tapas. From Asian Fusion to Mexican and most American options this list is just the beginning to the many different cuisines Barcelona has to offer.

And after those long nights at the club, is there anything better than eating that crazy greasy American food? Well, don't worry. We've been there and made a list for you to hit, when those cravings tackle you from the inside.

1. Rosa Del Raval

One of the best options for Mexican food in the city, with authentic guacamole and fresh ingredients its a spot not to miss! The key time to go is during lunch as they serve a 10 euro lunch deal with soup or salad, main course, dessert and drink, its a great deal!
Picture
2. Milk Bar & Bistro

Run by an Irish couple with many years of experience in the trade, Milk has cemented itself as one of the premium cocktail bars in Barcelona complimented by a diverse and creative menu.  With tons of american favorites for lunch and dinner, they also serve a brunch with extensive options like french toast or eggs benedict!

Picture
3. La Rosa Negra

With pitchers of margaritas and huge burritos; these are the components that make La Rosa Negra the success that it is. Although you can expect a medium sort of pricing (from the 25-30 Euro range) and a pretty standard menu, what La Rosa Negra lacks in choices and imagination it makes up for in a really great restaurant.
Picture
4. Bo De Be

'B Bo' is a restaurant geared to all ages and pockets without giving up quality works by word of mouth and offers sandwiches and fresh salads of varied products that combine flavors of Greece, India, Africa and Europe. If you want that quick, go to meal that'll fill you up with warm gooey goodness, then Bo De Be is the place to be. See what I did there? It's cheap and quick too, just like that American fast food. See the photo down below.
Picture
5. UDON

Delicious Asian Fusion with everything from noodle bowls, to salads, sushi and great beverages! Because, what's better than eating greasy Chinese food when you've been drinking and all that? Quick, easy, cheap and cures a hangover with a plethora of salt added to your food. Hair of the dog anyone? Don't eat too much or it has the reverse effect, trust me. Damn you Razzmatazz...
Picture
6. George Paynes

Your classic american Irish pub with all sorts of american favorites like nachos or chicken tenders. This place needs to be a staple for you. They've got beer pong here during the week - and ALWAYS show the Barcelona games. There is really no better place to be to watch the game, meet new people and of course, get that greasy Irish pub food that you can find everywhere around the world. This place kind of reminds me of Scholar's back in Rome too. Good place to be if you are missing home, or need a break from the crazy Barca lifestyle.
Picture
Other than that, feel free to click on any of the images to get the restaurant's website, or if you want more advice on where to go and what to do in Barcelona, feel free to message me Evan Deschenes on Facebook. So, Now You're a 'Wino'

Picture
So you’ve come abroad and now you are a wine lover. It happens slowly. You start having it with dinner, then the occasional pregame wine,  then you’re casually drinking a bottle to the face while watching the latest Netflix show when you’re “having a night in”. For those of you that relate to this love of wine, did you know they have wine on tap in Italy?! It’s called “Vino alla Spina” (on tap), or “Vino sfuso” (wine in bulk or loose). All you do is bring your own bottle and fill up a liter for as little as €2- €3 ! Here are some of the hot spots to check out in Florence.

Enoteca Alla Sosta dei Papi

Via Borgo La Croce, 81r

Neighborhood: Sant’Ambrogio
Picture
They offer six or seven wines on tap, almost all from local family-owned wineries. Their most inexpensive red wine is a Montepulciano, at €2.60/liter, while their most popular is the Montalcino for €3.30/liter.
Picture
I Vinaio

Via delle Carra, 16

Neighborhood: Piazza S. Jacopino

This is a really small shop that sells some great wine that costs between €2- €5 a bottle. They also have prosecco on tap! Amazing, definitely worth a taste.
Picture
Vigna Vittoria
Via Fabroni Giovanni, 14R
Neighborhood: Piazza S. Jacopino
This place has a wide selection of wines from all over Italy.  Basic red and white table wines start at €1.20/liter
Picture
BVeg
Via degli Orti Oricellari, 6
Neighborhood: Santa Maria Novella Station
Not only does Bveg offer some amazing vegetarian food in Florence, but this little bistro has a wide selection of beer, hence the name B(eer)Veg(etarian). They have about six beers on tap, all of which are from Italian breweries. A beer costs about €5 here and after 7PM they have a small aperitivo!
Picture
Bacco Nudo
Via dei Macci 59/61r
Neighborhood: Santa Croce
Another great vino sfuso is here, and the owners are father and son, two very nice men who hand write all in store signage.  They search for the best wines and products typical to the region and is happy to share with you!

Five Damn Good Reasons Why You Should Book an Amalfi Coast Trip

By: Brittany Marie Bowie - EuroAdventures Florence Tour Guide

1. Granitas in Capri

There’s nothing better than getting off the funicular at the top of Capri, arriving in the piazetta and being greeted by a man named Giorgio who hand makes the most delicious drink you will ever taste in your life at his little granita stand. A granita is an alcoholic or non alcoholic cocktail that contains lemon slushy and blood orange juice Giorgio squeezes himself with a splash of vodka. Nothing really compares to being on top of this beautiful island looking at the amazing mountainous scenery with one in your hand.
Picture
2. Black Sand Beaches With a View

The scenery of the beaches in Positano are incomparable to any other sea side village! The architecture of Positano makes it an absolute bucket list destination! The high mountain side that meets the crystal clear water is adorned with immaculate colorful houses that creates a picture picture town straight out of a fairy tale. Being able to relax on the beach and soak up the sun for an entire day here is a beach-goers heaven.
Picture
3. Limoncello Tasting

Ever seen a lemon the size of your head? Well, in Southern Italy you will see hundreds and amazing tourists with their size, isn't all they are good for. The lemons make the sweetest juice in the world which is then turned into the amazingly delicious limoncello. Locals drink it after almost every meal and is said to be a great digestive. Never tried it? Why not experience it in the place it originated!
Picture
4. The Blue Grotto

A tiny gap in the cliffs of capri that is only big enough for a tiny row boat to pass through, is the gateway to one of the most unique views in the world. Inside of this 2 foot entrance is a cave that opens up into a vast pool illuminated bright blue! Naturally lighted, the little cave glows so brightly off of the rocky walls by the way the sunlight hits the water and reflects back into the grotto. It is an experience like no other! Once you are inside of this magnificent treasure, you can even tip your boat captain to take a dip into the neon waters!
Picture
5. History of Pompeii

Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried in meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Still remaining destroyed but untouched, you can take a guided tour around the town to be immersed in the way of life of those thousands of years before. Houses completely stoned still lie here and you can even see what looks like stone sculptures but is really those who didn't get the chance to run from the exploding lava.

Everyone loves a good holiday - and St. Paddy's day is easily one of the best. No it's not 'St. Patty's' despite everyone thinking it's St. Patrick's Day, but really it's St. PADDY'S. And what could make this epic holiday even better? Well, how about being in IRELAND for it?

Yeah, we can make it happen. We run a trip there every year to Dublin for St. Paddy's and you should totally join us. See here for more info on EuroAdventures Ireland Trip.

But first, let's get into why this trip rocks.
Picture
Reason #1: Dublin is in full spirit and ready to celebrate. Shamrocks are covering the city from stickers and pins to shirts and necklaces, your St. Patrick’s Day gear won’t disappoint. Every store, shop and restaurant will be decorated for the holiday making sure you won’t forget why you’re there.

Reason #2: Temple Bar. This iconic bar does not disappoint. If you’re celebrating in Dublin, the Temple Bar area is where the party is at- don’t miss out.

Reason #3: The people of Ireland are friendly and fun! The locals in Dublin are some of the nicest all over Europe and they aren’t shy about being your friend if you’re celebrating in a bar or just walking on the street. Not to mention they’re happy to get to know you over a couple of beers and will help you find the best restaurants, pubs and bars you don’t want to miss.

Reason #4: The Cliffs of Moher are just a day trip away. These cliffs are a must see if you spend any time in Ireland. Get out of Dublin for a couple of hours and spend sometime checking out the beautiful Irish country side.

Reason #5: The St. Patricks Day Parade doesn’t disappoint. Street food, music, dancing, floats and more! This festival is a lot of fun and there’s so much to see!

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday you’ve celebrated as long as you can remember and now is the time to celebrate with the best of them in Dublin! Book your flight and don’t forget your green so you don’t get pinched during one of the biggest celebrations Ireland has to offer!

Our Favorite 'Secret Spots' in Florence, Italy

12/1/2015

By EuroAdventures Tour Guide: Matt Nelson (Find him here on Facebook)

You’re studying in one of the best cities in the world, it’s time to ditch the Rick Steves and explore on your own! There’s not much better than finding a hidden spot that’s off the beaten track. A place that tourists don’t know about and somewhere you can share with all of your friends and seem like a true local. For the adventurous type- here’s a start to your list of secret spots in Florence…

Most of these photos (except the ones in the slideshow) are from my Instagram account Philly2Firenze, feel free to follow me by clicking on any of the photos or directly here: https://www.instagram.com/philly2firenze/

You should also definitely be following the general EuroAdventures Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/euroadventures/

Now, let's get to it! These are some of my absolute favorite spots in all of Florence...let's see if you've heard of them before.
Rooftop Bars
If you feel like being a baller one night definitely try one of Florence’s rooftop bars to get the best views of the city at night. Some of the best are La Terrazza at La Continentale Hotel, The Westin Excelsior, Grand Hotel Baglioni, and Plaza Hotel Lucchesi.

For the ballers on a budget, there’s a reasonably priced café on the top of the department store La Rinascente in Piazza Della Reppublica.
Picture
Soccer fields
Whether you’re trying to see how your soccer skills compare to that of Italians or just get a sweat going there are a few awesome spots to play in Florence. There’s an awesome little turf field located at Via Giuseppe Giusti, 23. If your school doesn’t have a team sometimes you can just sneak on and shoot around. Another small turf field where locals are always playing is located in Piazza Massimo D’Azeglio. Free to play, but that ankle surgery is gonna cost ya!
Picture
Bike Rental
Escape the city center and go exploring! There’s a little stand right out in the front of Santa Maria Novella station that rents bikes for super cheap! One hour = 2 euros | Five hours = 5 euros | One Day = 10 euros. If you happen to have an ATAF bus pass prices are basically half the non-resident prices. You can find an awesome open path along the Arno going west that is nice and open without cars.
Picture
Rose Garden
Sometimes you just gotta be basic…and go somewhere for the insta. Florence’s Rose Garden has tons of cool statues like this empty suitcase. Located just below Piazzale Michelangelo in Viale Giuseppe Poggi.
Clet’s Studio
If you’ve walked only a few blocks in Florence you’ve most likely seen Clet’s work. Clet creatively alters street signs in some pretty cool ways. His studio across the Arno is pretty amazing. You can buy one of these street signs or just a small sticker replica for just €1. Via dell'Olmo, 8
Picture
Secret Bakeries
Late night munchies? Follow the sweet smell of fresh pastries to a secret bakery. Order in Italian. Most of these places are in residential neighborhoods so you need to keep quiet otherwise you may not get served. Some of our favorites are brioches or cornettas con crema or nutella. Be respectful!! This is technically illegal so be careful.
1. Pasticceria Vinci & Bongini (Santa Croce)-Walk down Via dei Benci towards the river, making a right onto Pizza Peluzzi. Quiet down as you make the first left then first right onto Via del Canto Rivalto. You'll know you arrived when you see the post-bar crowd crowded around a sliding glass door that reads "Please be quiet". If you're the first one there knock softly.

2. Laboratoria di Pasticceria Arrighi (Pizza dell'Indipendenza/SMN Train Station)-On the corner of via delle Ruote and via San Gallo.

3. The (Truly Secret) Bakery (Santa Croce)-Facing Santa Croce, take the street directly to the left of the church and make the first left onto Via delle Pinzochere. The bakery will be on your right.

4. The (Truly Secret) Family Bakery (Santa Croce)- Facing Santa Croce, take the street directly to the left of the church and make the third left onto Via de' Macci. The bakery will be on your left and the door is covered by caged bars. You can see into the back where they bake and after a wave or two they'll come open the door.

San Miniato

Forget Piazzale Michelangelo, ditch the crowded steps and head just down the street to Florence’s oldest church. Home of dozens of monks who you can hear chanting if you go at the right time. Also there are actual benches to sit, enjoy the view and a bottle of vino!
Picture
Villas
Just outside Florence’s city center you will stumble upon some incredible villas. Take an ATAF bus to explore some of these amazing properties. Villa Corsini a Castello, Villa della Petraia, and Poggio a Caiano are some of the best that allow regular visitors.

The Amalfi Coast Is Our Best Trip and Here's Why

11/23/2015

First thing first...get AMPED about our 'Amalfi Coast' trip by checking out this YouTube video of one of our recent trips to Italy's southern coast. Check us out at www.euroadventures.com to book your next trip with us!
The Amalfi Coast is clearly one of the most popular travel destinations in all of Europe and we couldn't be more stoked about going there multiple times a year. It's often that we sell out ALL of our Amalfi trips and if you watched the video above, you'll know why. EuroAdventures trips have the most to offer and for good reason. We have a killer time and every single town we visit in The Amalfi Coast is simply EPIC. From our stay at Italian villas in Sorrento, to touring through Positano, Capri, Ravella, Pompeii Naples and more, you won't be disappointed.

And beyond all of these colorful coastal towns, views, amazing seafood and SUPER nice people, here are some of my favorite things about Italy's Amalfi Coast.
Picture
The scenery is beyond breathtaking, and I'm not just saying that to get you to go on this trip. But really, all over the Amalfi Coast, the views are far too good to be true. Endless Instagram opportunities really...for examples, in Positano, there is a beautiful town built right into the hillside overlooking the crystal clear blue water with all kinds of colorful canopies hanging throughout a million different shops. The colors alone will leave you in awe and all over the entire town, you'll find panini shops, clothing stores and amazing restaurants, all just steps away from the best beach you'll ever partake in.

Another one of my favorite views is in Capri, which produces some of the best views you will ever see in your life. Especially at the peak of Monte Solaro (pictured above) where you'll literally find yourself above the clouds and you can look over the entire island and even see Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

Lastly, Sorrento is just a beautiful town all in its own. So is every other Italian town am I right? But there's something special about Sorrento and even the drive to the other coastal towns are simply amazing. Besides the terrifying cliffs that drop right into the water below, there is just constantly beauty all around and ample opportunities to take fantastic pictures (Remember what I said about endless Instagram opportunities?).

The last bit of our trip gives you the opportunity to explore either Pompeii or Naples...I would absolutely recommend going to see Pompeii, which is one of the worlds greatest archaeological sites. I couldn't say enough about how awesome strolling through the ruins are, it's just something you're going to have to do on your own, but definitely with friends. It gets super hot here because of all the rock here, so definitely bring water and food as there is not much shade. But overall, you'll have a great time. If you've already been to Pompeii or want to see Naples more, it's only about a 10 minute train ride away from Pompeii so check that out if you want!
Picture
The Food: Honestly, no matter where you go in Italy it seems like there is going to be unbelievably good food, . The Amalfi Coast is no different. Seeing how it is not far from Naples (the birthplace of pizza) it has some of the best pizza Italy has to offer. Also there is amazing seafood in all of these coastal towns and the biggest lemons you will see in you life. That dinner includes unlimited pizza, pasta, and wine where no one ever leaves hungry. In Positano there is an great Panini shop called Vini & Panini where you can get some of the best paninis in Italy. Among all the restaurants in Sorrento, I'd say you really can't go wrong at the end of the day. There is limitless opportunity to eat great good in Italy and the Amalfi Coast is at the very center of it.

FYI, check out Sorrento's English Pub, as well as the kebab shop right around the corner from it. They go hand in hand.
Picture
Boat Cruises and Grottos: One of the best ways to see the city of Positano and the island of Capri is via a boat cruise. Cruising along the coast of Positano gives you a unique angle to see the town and also give you an opportunity to stop and swim in the Mediterranean to cool off. In Capri the boat cruise brings you around the entire island where you can see the towering rocky coast. Along the way there are a couple spots to stop and swim in the blue and green grottos. The grottos are beautiful, especially the Blue Grotto where you get into a rowboat and duck into a cave to see the illuminated water.
Picture
Mediterranean Beaches: It is tough to beat getting a panini and drinks then going out and chilling on the beach in Positano. Laying out under that hot Mediterranean sun then cooling in the water. Do not underestimate the sun though because it is deceivingly hot. With amazing view of the town of Positano from the beach and the amazing weather and water it is truly a place that you can spend a lifetime at.

A Girl's Guide to Being Budget Savvy

11/10/2015

Florence is by far the best city to study abroad in...(at least in my opinion). But seriously, it's got endless things to do and about a million different places to eat, so you'll never get bored. Besides being one of the most walkable cities in all of Europe, Florence offers a stunning array of views, shops to sift through, museums to meander in and again...copious amounts of food to gorge on.

So, with all these awesome things to do, how do you not spend 200% of your study abroad budget? Well, let's dive in.

Explore markets- Markets are easily the best way to get your daily products for cheaper. Everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to clothes and beauty products, you'll end up saving money by bargaining at markets. Just make sure you go before 2 pm because they close after that. Seriously, be an early riser, get up and get the best deals of the day from the market. Just remember, these products are all natural and will go bad much faster than they would at home. So, it's best to make your trips to the market a daily endeavor, or at least every other day. Make this a habit and you'll eat well all semester for super cheap.

The markets are everywhere so do some walking around until you stumble on one close by your apartment or school. Or you can always walk across town to 'Mercato Centrale' - the biggest of the biggest markets in Firenze. They have everything a girl or guy could want. Trust me.

Hungry? Get off the beaten path- Choose a restaurant, panini shop or gelateria away from main piazzas or areas. For example, the best reasonably priced panini in Firenze is at Antico Viniao. It's only 5 euro and it's located on a side street a few blocks away from Piazza della Signoria (again, stay away from the piazzas and tourism).

This also goes for just about every European city. The most expensive food will be near the biggest tourist attractions. That is a guarantee. You want to save money? Then walk a few blocks away from the central locations, hop into a 'no-name' shop and pay half the price. When you begin to frequent the same locations too the people will get to know you and begin charging you a lot less. It's good to be a girl too because the Italian shop keepers give us more discounts than the guys (haha). Use it to your advantage and find the places that you like the best. A piece of advice? Just because a restaurant has a line doesn't necessarily mean it's good. You're studying abroad in Italy...everything here is good. Don't be afraid to try that hole in the wall place. It's probably cheaper, just as good and you won't waste half an hour waiting in line for a sandwich.

Free daily entertainment– Live in the moment and enjoy where you are. There are plenty of awesome piazzas in Firenze to sit down, grab a drink and just people watch. The streets are filled with some interesting people and situations constantly. Another thing I love is that most piazzas have live music, especially in the evening.

One of my favorite things to do in my downtime (that always provide enjoyment) is to people watch. Florence is a tourist city and there are A LOT of interesting people to see and meet. Find a spot, walk around and soak in the sunshine when it's there, cause you won't be here forever.

Like I said before, there are so many places to sit down and just R-E-L-A-X so take some time to yourself. Florence is absolutely incredible and I wish I could pick just one spot that's my favorite, but I can't Each and everyday brings a new opportunity, place to explore and sights to see.

    Who Wrote This?

We are former study abroad students who have been there, done that. We're not here to pretend we're all high & mighty because we've lived abroad before - we're here to tell you it's normal to worry & freak out about every detail that comes along with living in a foreign country. Just kick back and let us drop some knowledge and before you know it you'll be feeling like a professional tour guide (just don't try to take our jobs, k?).
